Moto 360 SmartWatch

June 27, 2014

The most anticipated product of the year by Motorola, the Moto 360 SmartWatch, was recently unveiled by the company at Google I/O developer conference in San Francisco. After the launch of Samsung’s Live Gear and LG’s G Watch, smartwatches have suddenly become the flavor of the season. While both the products are trendsetters in their own way, Moto 360 smartwatch just stands out because of its astounding features.

The traditional round display sets Moto 360 apart from other smartwatches. Success of the Moto 360 is not only attributed to the conventional look and feel but also to its amazingly light weight design which makes it a surprisingly comfortable device to wear on.
It was brilliant of Motorola to think out of the box and reinvent the traditional wrist watch of today to unveil the product of tomorrow. The round touchscreen has made an attractive use of space. From customized faces of the clock to messages, emails and other apps, this small but efficient device has a lot to offer.

The screen, though provides for a dim display when not in use, it is circumvented with the presence of an ambient light sensor that offers high performance even on a device this small. Just a little tap on the screen makes the watch come alive and you can access the device to check for important messages, emails and other important notifications. Another feather on Motorola’s cap is that the device responds to the gestures of moving your wrist and immediately displays important notifications for you without having to tap it.  This feature gives the device a premium feel.

The voice control feature of the device is flexible and acts on your verbal commands.  The device performs with such perfection that it becomes impossible to draw out any flaw in its design. Because it is android based, the smartwatch is said to be compatible with all Moto smartphones and android based phones with versions 4.3 or above.

To give it more elegant and classy look, Motorola decided to finish the watch with stainless steel. The steel glides against your skin smoothly   and the leather straps provide for a firm grip. After its initial release there would be plenty of designer straps available to give the watch more personalized look.

Moto 360 has an ambitious design and is high on style quotient. The company plans to launch various designs for the device. It will be launched later in summer first in U.S. and then globally. The pricing of the watch hasn’t been made public yet but is anticipated it will be priced on par with the features it offers. Even so, this product is expected to be a game changer in the market.

How To Avoid Buying A Bad Domain Name Used By Spammers

April 30, 2014

Buying a new domain can be a challenging task for anyone who is looking to have credible presence in the virtual world through a website. As there is no way of determining whether the domain was previously in the bad books of search engine giant Google, many people are wary when it comes to buying domains. Many of the domain names are such that they have already been destroyed by spammers.

In this context, Google’s head of web spam, Matt Cutts has offered some tips that will make the task of buying a new domain simpler. Read on to know more.

  • The first step Cutts recommends is doing a site-colon search with the domain name that you are looking to buy. It would look something like this- site: domain_name. In case no results show up for that domain, it is an indicator that you should avoid buying it. Even if that domain has content, it is still advisable to avoid buying it.
  • An added step to the site-colon search would be applying the same on Bing. If results show up there and not on Google, it is a very obvious sign that the domain name in question is a bad one. So it is in your best interest to avoid a domain name that shows up in Bing but not on Google.
  • A simple search with the domain name, sans dot com or any other extension can also be pretty helpful. This will help the prospective buyer of that domain name to have a fair idea about the site’s reputation.
  • Another resource that could be pretty useful to those who are looking to buy domain names is Archive.org, wherein previous versions for a particular domain can be seen. Going through these versions will show whether the domain contained spammy or auto-generated content before. This again will help in making a decision whether to buy the domain or not.
  • Next recommendation offered by Matt is for those looking to buy a domain name from a current website owner. In such a situation, going through the site’s traffic analytics can provide useful insights into unusual trends, if any. In case something different or out of context is observed, you can forego that domain name and look for another one.

Buying domain names that are clean can be tricky. ‘Buyer’s beware’ is the watchword here. Trying some of the methods recommended by Matt Cutts as mentioned above, could simplify your task; you will be aware of what you are up against.

3D Printing – An Introduction

February 28, 2014

New technologies are launched everyday; however, there are certain technologies that have power to revolutionize the world. 3D printing is such a technology that is bound to redefine the manufacturing of homemade and customized products.

3D printing is still a naive topic. Most of the people think that it is a similar process as normal printing; however, it differs a lot. Unlike a regular printer, that creates an image on TV screen, monitor, or paper, 3 D printing produces real objects, for instance, earlier craftsmen used hand techniques and tools to mould material into a particular shape, but 3D printer easily creates a 3 dimensional structure in no time. 3D printing, which is also known as Additive layer manufacturing in industrial terminology, is a manufacturing process that uses digital model to create 3-dimentional solid objects of virtually any shape and size. The process is also called architectural modeling, rapid prototyping, and stereolighography. The technique uses layers of material to make the desired object. By using the technology, creating complex shapes and structures becomes easy. The 3D printing technology uses distributed manufacturing and prototyping and finds applications in construction, automotive, architecture, aerospace, engineering, medical, and dental industries, jewelry, fashion, food, and various other fields.

Manufacturers create a digital model with the help of a 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) program. This model is sliced into extremely thin layers. While printing, the 3D printer starts printing from the bottom of the design and layer by layer builds the desired object. Initially, the technology was available with large corporations, as it was expensive; however, with more advancement, desktop 3D printers came into being and the technology became affordable as well as accessible to even small and medium sized companies. These days the use of 3D printing ranges from designing fine jewelry to designing automotive parts. It took a lot of time and money to create prototypes in the past; however, 3D printing has eased the stress and has made it economical and less time-consuming. Now companies can produce own prototypes instead of outsourcing the work to production companies and this greatly helps them bring down their expenses.

The credit of creating first 3D printers goes to Chuck Hull who developed this wonder machine in 1984. Depending on the product to be made, different printers use different material for creating layers, such as resin, metal, plastic, polymer, gel, etc. Exact replicas of various objects can be easily created by using this emerging technology. With time, the cost of these printers has substantially decreased and the sales have increased. The technology promises to be the future of manufacturing industry. It will create endless possibilities for manufacturers and will allow them to create solid objects by simply pressing a button.
